WORD OF LIFE

Our society, which all too often questions the inestimable value of life, every life, needs you [young people with disabilities]: in a decisive way you help build the civilization of love. What is more, you play a leading role in that civilization. As sons and daughters of the Church, you offer the Lord your lives, with all their ups and downs, cooperating with him and somehow becoming “part of the treasury of compassion so greatly needed by the human race” (Spe Salvi, 40).

Pope Benedict XVI, Remarks at the San José Foundation for Disabled Youth, Madrid, August 20, 2011

ADOPTION – THE LOVING OPTION

Adoption is a life-giving, loving option for women in a crisis pregnancy.  For information about adoption, visit www.catholiccharitiesusa.org or www.directory.adoption.com/domestic/Maryland.html

Please continue to pray for the born so that they may be healthy and happy; for the unborn so that they may be born; and for the babies who will not be born due to abortion, that they find happiness in the loving arms of God.

Please pray for the sick of the parish.  If you know of any member of the parish who is homebound or in the hospital, please call the office.  As you are aware, we no longer publish a list of the sick, but remember, they are kept in our prayers.

 RACHEL’S VINEYARD

Rachel’s Vineyard weekend retreats offer a beautiful opportunity for healing to any woman or man who has struggled with the emotional or spiritual pain of an abortion.  The retreat is a chance to get away from the daily pressures of work and family, to focus on a painful time in life, and to begin healing through a supportive and non-judgmental process.   Rachel’s vineyard strictly respects confidentiality and privacy.  If you or someone you know is hurting, please call today.   For more information call the toll-free national hotline at 1-877-hope-4-me or visit the website at www.rachelsvineyard.org.

THE ARCHBISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL

ENTRUSTED WITH A STEWARDSHIP

(1 Corinthians 9:17)

The Archbishop’s Annual Appeal is now underway.  Many of our parishioners have received a mailing from Archbishop O’Brien.  He has asked that you make a pledge to the 2012 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal.

This year, the theme of the Appeal is, “Entrusted With a Stewardship.”  We have been entrusted with a stewardship to care for the less fortunate members of our community.  Let us act as our Savior Jesus Christ and touch their lives with compassion.  Let us share the many blessings that God has bestowed on us and give generously to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal.

Your gift will enable Archdiocesan support of ministry, education, and services that touch thousands of lives not only in our Archdiocese but throughout the world.

Our parish receives 25% of each dollar contributed up to our goal of $20,770.  The, we receive 50% of the additional funds received beyond our goal.  This year, we will commit our parish rebates to some of the maintenance issues facing our buildings.

Please answer the Archbishop’s request and make a generous pledge.  All pledges can be billed in ten monthly installments.  Thank you in advance for your support.

Tree of Life: A beautiful gilded Tree of Life is on the vestibule wall of Saint Alphonsus Church.  The name of an individual or family to be honored will be inscribed on his or her own gold leaf.  Mass will be offered annually for all those whose names appear on the tree or on one of the foundation stones around it.  Parishioners, members of the Novena Family and Friends of Saint Alphonsus Church are invited to call Deacon Hugh Mills at (410) 685-6090 for information.  All donations from the Tree of Life will be used for church and rectory restorations.  Leaf donation is $500.00.  Your gift is tax deductible. Payments can be made in installments.

We are still collecting aluminum cans for recycling.  This is a fundraiser that doesn't cost you anything, brings the restoration projects a few dollars and helps the environment.  You can drop off your clean crushed cans at the church office whenever the office is open.  Keep those cans coming and please be so kind as to crush them.  Thank you!

In addition, please continue to remember to bring in your used computer ink or copy machine cartridges as well as old cell phones.  This is a fund raiser that doesn't hurt but only helps.  On the average, cell phones bring in up to $3.00 per phone.  Remember, please continue to bring in those old used cell phones.  THANKS TO ALL WHO TAKE PART IN THIS FUNDRAISER.  Any questions please call the rectory office.
